Census Building Refurbishment, Hillington Estate, Glasgow – Value: £0.8m (Client: Caledonian Land)

The Census Building is a former industrial manufacturing facility of 240,000 sq ft with associated office space. Built in 1940’s, the circulation and car parking space around the building was limited. The refurbishment involved partial demolition to create a service yard suitable for articulated vehicles, the introduction of vehicle docking facilities and the creation of clear internal floor space and fork lift routes to accommodate modern storage requirements. The contract was successfully completed within both the cost plan and the 18 week construction programme.
